Pakistan Super League (PSL)

The Pakistan Super League (PSL) is the first cricket league and only Professional Twenty20 Cricket league which is played between 6 teams of Pakistan which represents six cities of the Pakistan and held on February and March of every year. This league was first played in Pakistan on 9 September 2015 with only 5 teams with the help and organization of  Pakistan Cricket Board. In the PSL each team is owned by investor which owns the team on their own behalf  which is different from the independently owned teams.

Information

                   Each team will in the PSL have to play matches according to the style and format of Double Round Robin, the top 4 teams which make the record or defeat the others team  qualify for the culminate  in the championship game, which is the final match. The schedule and other planning is done in the main office of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The PSL today is expanded to the 6 teams. The most popular and successful team is Islamabad United which has been able to won the two winner trophy, the last won champion of the PSL is the Multan Sultan who won the 2021 season.

History of the PSL

                  The Pakistan Cricket Board decided to launch Pakistan first professional championship in September 2015 which is known as PSLIn September 2015. The last captains of the Pakistani team which were considered as a great player Wasim Akram and Rameez Raja are selected to singed a contract to became the brand ambassador of Pakistan super league for the three years.

As after the PCB has planned many times and failed in many ways  the first cricket league of the Pakistan officially began on 4 February 2016 in the United Arab Emirates where Bakhtawar Bhutto Zardari with the support  of the Nahyan bin Mumbarak inaugurated the opening ceremony of PSL. The first two seasons of the PSL has only 5 teams of the major cities of the Pakistan as planned by the PCB. In the first season of the PSL the PCB decided to add many international players. The Pakistan Cricket Board used the antique formula for the recruitment of the player like in the most of the professional cricket league in North American and which is opposite to the system in the other T20 super leagues.

The official logo of the Pakistan Super league PSL was first displayed to the public at the ceremony in Lahore on September 2015 which was in 3Dimecsional. The function was very good and it became beautiful by the help Pakistani celebrities and the current and retired circketers. The commercial rights for the PSL was sold for the $93 million to the initial franchises which can use the commercial of the PSL and was for the  time of the 10 years which started from  December 2015. The popularity of the PSL in 2017 was increase between the Pakistani public and other countries as well and reached to the $300 million and is still growing.

Expansion to Six teams

              In 2017, the PCB decided to add the one more team in the tournament, which was decided to selected from the Azad Kashmir but was rejected in May 2016. Sethi announced that the there will be 6 teams in the next season of the league. The Governor of the KPK Zafar Jhangra also announced that the PSL administration will reach to them for the selection of the sixth team. Also some thoughts that PCB should choose sixth team from their area. But the PCB choose the five cities which are the following

·         Faislabad

·         FATA

·         Hyderabad

·         Dera Murad Jamil

·         Multan

The PCB finally in 2018 decided the six team for the tournament which was known as MULTAN SULTAN which was owned by the Schon Properties for the price of the $5.2 million annually. On 10 November 2018, the PCB declared that they had terminated the aggrement  with Schon Properties, and was given to the other owner.

Profits

     The PCB in May 2016 revealed that the season of the PSL is able to collect $2.6 million as the profit.

Stadiums

     The main purpose of PSL was  to increase the dignity of Pakistan for the Cricket point of view because the international teams were very afraid to come Pakistan and play any match with Pakistan team due to the terrorist issues. The international teams became very conscious and fell danger to be here in Pakistan and play the match with the team. That’s why the PCB decided to play the most of the tournament matches in their own country. The Pakistan famous stadium for the cricket matches  are Gadaffi Stadium, National Stadium, Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium which are present in the main Pakistan so that the Pakistan will again gets its glory.

Sponsorship

              In December 2015 the HBL the bank of the Pakistan is decided to purchase the title sponsorship for the next three years. The sponsorship which is included the title sponsorship and the commercial rights is estimated to the price of the more than $6 million. The PCB announced that the HBL has renewed the contract for more three years and now it has the title sponsorship to the year of 2025.
